Meet & Greet at Schiphol: Where Your Chauffeur Waits for You

Meet & Greet at Schiphol explained: where your chauffeur waits, the relocated meeting point, what to do without phone signal, and how the VIP Centre differs.

29 October 2026 · 6 min read

You walk through the sliding doors after baggage claim and the noise hits you. A wall of faces, phones held up, hand-written cards, tour guides with flags. You scan for your name. It is not there. Your phone has no signal yet.

That is the moment Meet & Greet is meant to fix. It mostly does. But only if you know how Schiphol is laid out, and what to do in the rare minute when things do not line up.

What does Meet & Greet actually mean at Schiphol?

The phrase gets used for three different things. It helps to know which one you are booking.

  • Kerbside pickup. The driver waits in the car outside, or in a car park, and you walk to them. Cheaper for the company, more work for you.
  • Meet & Greet in the arrivals hall. A chauffeur stands where passengers come out after customs, holding a sign with your name. They take your luggage and walk you to the car. This is what most travellers mean.
  • VIP Centre. A separate, private terminal facility at Schiphol. You are met at the aircraft, taken through private passport and customs checks, and driven away from a private apron. More on this below.

At Harchani, Meet & Greet in the arrivals hall is part of every Schiphol airport transfer, not an add-on. Some operators charge a surcharge for coming inside the terminal, so it is worth checking what any quote includes.

Where will my chauffeur be waiting?

After passport control and baggage claim, you walk through customs and come out into an arrivals hall. Schiphol has more than one arrival hall, and they all open onto Schiphol Plaza, the big public hall with the shops, cafés and train station. Your arrival hall depends on where your flight was handled; the Schiphol app and the screens show it.

Your chauffeur waits where passengers come through the doors, holding a name board. A good chauffeur checks your arrival hall before you land, but halls can change late. If you come out and do not see your name, do not wander off into the Plaza. Stop, look along the barrier, then message or call.

You may have heard of Schiphol's famous red-and-white "Meeting Point" cube. It has gone. According to Schiphol's own meeting page, the meeting point in Schiphol Plaza has been temporarily moved to the area between the NS ticket counters and La Place, diagonally in front of Stach, with a "meeting point" sign. That is a useful fallback spot to agree on. Because the location is temporary, check the page shortly before you fly.

What will I know before I land?

Before your journey, you receive a confirmation with your chauffeur's name and contact details. Save that number in your phone straight away, and add it to WhatsApp if you use it. Then take a screenshot of the confirmation. Screenshots work without signal.

It also helps if you tell us a few things when you book:

  • The flight number, not just the landing time. We track that flight, not a clock.
  • The name you want on the board. Your own, your company's, or a guest's.
  • How many people and bags there really are. A pushchair, a wheelchair or a set of golf clubs changes the plan.
  • Whether anyone needs a child seat. These are available on request at no extra charge.

What if my phone has no data when I land?

This happens more than you would think. A foreign SIM that will not roam, a flat battery, an eSIM that needs activating.

A simple plan works:

  1. Before you fly, save your chauffeur's number and the confirmation screenshot.
  2. When you land, try Wi-Fi in the terminal. Schiphol's taxi page also mentions free Wi-Fi at the Uber and Bolt pick-up point outside, if you need it.
  3. Walk out of customs and stand still just past the doors for a minute. Most missed meetings happen because someone walks fast into the Plaza.
  4. If you still cannot see your name, go to the temporary meeting point sign and wait there. If you need help, ask at a Schiphol information desk.

Please do not leave the airport in a taxi without trying to reach your chauffeur first. They will be looking for you, and it is usually a two-minute fix.

What happens step by step, from the gate to the car?

Here is what a normal arrival looks like with a booked chauffeur:

  1. The plane lands. Your chauffeur has already been following the flight and knows if it is early or late.
  2. Passport control and baggage claim. This part is the same for everybody. Allow for queues if you are arriving from outside the Schengen area.
  3. Through customs into the arrivals hall. Look for your name on a board.
  4. Your chauffeur takes the luggage. You do not need to push a trolley through the Plaza.
  5. A short walk to the car. The car is parked nearby, not at the taxi rank.
  6. You leave. No meter, no payment at the end. The price was agreed in advance.

If you are reading this because your flight is running late, that part of the story has its own guide on airport transfers and flight tracking.

How does Meet & Greet compare with a taxi or an app ride?

Meet & Greet chauffeur Official taxi rank Uber / Bolt
Where you meet Inside the arrivals hall, name board Taxi rank in front of Schiphol Plaza App pick-up point outside
Help with luggage Yes, from the hall to the car At the car At the car, if the driver offers
Flight tracked Yes No No
Price Fixed, agreed in advance Meter Set by the app, can rise with demand
Queue None Can be long at peak times Wait time varies
Booking In advance Not needed On arrival, in the app

All three are fine choices for somebody. The taxi rank is official and regulated, as Schiphol explains on its own pages. Meet & Greet simply removes the searching, the queue and the payment from the end of a long journey.

What changes when you travel as a group?

Groups add one complication: people come out of baggage claim at different times. One bag arrives first, another last. Agree before landing that everyone waits together just past the customs doors, rather than drifting into the Plaza in twos and threes. Your chauffeur counts heads, not just suitcases. For larger groups, we can send more than one vehicle or a minibus, and the chauffeurs coordinate so nobody stands outside alone.

Who is the Schiphol VIP Centre for?

The VIP Centre is a private facility, separate from the public terminal. You are met at the aircraft door or steps, escorted through dedicated passport and customs checks, and wait in a private lounge rather than the public halls. Your Harchani car then collects you directly from the private apron.

It suits people who cannot easily stand in a public queue: executives on tight schedules, diplomats, well-known guests, and anyone who needs privacy. It works for departures as well as arrivals. It is also a separate service with its own costs, so it is not something to book by default.

If you think it might suit your trip, ask about it when you request your quote, or read more about our VIP chauffeur service. For everyone else, a chauffeur with your name on a board is usually all you need. You can book that here.

Frequently asked questions

Does Meet & Greet at Schiphol cost extra with Harchani?

No. Meeting you inside the arrivals hall with a name board is included in every Harchani Schiphol transfer. You receive one fixed price in advance. Some operators charge a surcharge for coming into the terminal instead of waiting outside, so when you compare quotes, check whether Meet & Greet is included or listed as an extra.

What name will be on the chauffeur's sign?

Whatever name you give us when you book. Most travellers use their own surname. Business travellers sometimes prefer their company name, and some guests prefer a first name only for privacy. If you are booking for someone else, give us the passenger's name, not yours, and their phone number if possible.

What if I come out of a different arrival hall than expected?

Halls can change at short notice. Stop just past the doors, look around, then call or message your chauffeur using the number in your confirmation. They will walk over to you. If you cannot get through, wait at Schiphol's temporary meeting point sign in Schiphol Plaza, between the NS counters and La Place. Please do not leave without making contact.

Where is the old red and white Meeting Point at Schiphol?

It has been removed. Schiphol says the meeting point in Schiphol Plaza has temporarily moved to the space between the NS ticket counters and La Place, diagonally in front of Stach, marked with a 'meeting point' sign. As this is a temporary arrangement, check Schiphol's website shortly before you travel.

Will the chauffeur help with heavy luggage and pushchairs?

Yes. Your chauffeur takes your luggage from the arrivals hall to the car and loads it. Tell us in advance about anything bulky, such as pushchairs, wheelchairs, golf bags or skis, so we send a vehicle with enough space. For families, child seats are available on request at no extra charge.

Can I use the Schiphol VIP Centre for a departure?

Yes. The VIP Centre handles departures as well as arrivals. You are driven to the private facility, go through dedicated security and passport checks, and wait in a private lounge before being taken to your aircraft. It is a separate service with its own costs, so mention it when you request a quote.
